Aboriginal people traditionally wore ochred and handspun string headbands. These days women make a whole variety of coloured beanies. These serve to protect peoples' heads from the extreme heat and cold of the desert - especially as Aboriginal people live outdoors most of the year. Beanies are made from wool, acrylic or traditionally spun sheep wool.
